A new Walgreens store will bring 20-25 new jobs to Fruita, including pharmacists, managers and front-end employees. About half of those workers have been hired and are training in the existing stores.
“We probably need (to hire for) about another 10 positions,” said Matt Chamberlain, Clifton Walgreens store manager. Chamberlain will manage the Fruita store when it opens July 11.
The 14,000-square-foot store will include an in-store and drive-through pharmacy, a one-hour photo department, a wide selection of cosmetics, and various household items and promotional merchandise.
The Fruita store will be the third Walgreens location in the Grand Valley. The other two are located in Clifton and North Avenue in Grand Junction. A fourth store is coming next spring to First Street and Patterson Avenue.
“We’re adding about 500 stores a year,” Chamberlain said. “We open a new store every 17 hours.”
The company is focusing on smaller communities, Chamberlain said.
“Fruita needed other shopping options, so I think it’s really a good thing for the community,” Chamberlain said. “We’ve got a lot of positive feedback from people.”
The Fruita Walgreens is located at 316 West Aspen St.
